It was standing room only Tuesday night at the Bobby Orr Community Centre in Parry Sound.
In total, three mayoral candidates, 13 candidates vying for six seats on council, and two school board trustee candidates had their say before Parry Sound voters in what was considered, a very orderly meeting.
The crowd was attentive as the evening began with opening statements by the candidates followed by questions from the audience posed by moderator Jim Hanna and finally ending with closing statements. The entire event was sponsored and facilitated by Parry Sound realtor Sid Steiner.
In attendance were mayoral candidates Jamie McGarvey, Chris O’Gram, Dave Williams, council candidates Mark Aman, George Ashford, Vanessa Backman, Mike Barker, Paul Borneman, Roger Burden, Jamie Chapman, Brian Fisher, Ab Fuller, Brad Horne, Bonnie Keith, Doug McCann, and Lee-AnnTurner. Also present were school board trustee candidates John Cochrane and Howard Wesley.
While it would be a disservice to both candidates and voters to try to summarize what was actually said at the meeting, it’s safe to say the criticism was little more pointed at the mayoral level.
Main concerns included attracting and maintaining new business, the pool and splash pad projects, housing, and amalgamation. Because of the sheer number of candidates, only a few questions submitted by the audience were able to be asked.
