The Parry Sound Clerk’s office will see a new face head its department in the New Year.

Town Council at Tuesday night’s inaugural meeting appointed Rebecca Johnson as the new Town Clerk and the Head under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Johnson had previously been the Town Clerk and moves over from her role as Human Resources Coordinator.

She will be taking over for retiring Clerk, Jackie Boggs.

While Boggs departure isn’t effective until January 31, 2019, Tuesday night was her last night clerking for Parry Sound Town Council.

In his comments about her retirement, Mayor Jamie McGarvey noted that Boggs in her over 10 years of service, had clerked over 200 council meetings.

Jackie Boggs came to Parry Sound as Deputy Clerk/Executive Assistant in 2009 after serving in Seguin Township’s clerk’s department between 2000-2008.

She became Town Clerk in 2015

During her tenure with the Town of Parry Sound, Boggs oversaw three municipal elections.

In an effort to increase voter turnout, Boggs recommended telephone and internet voting for the municipal election, something Town Council adopted in 2014.
