Parry Sound Town Council will consider funding for a new Salvation Army Community Response Unit in the 2019 budget.
Council voted in favour of placing the funding request of $15,000 by Lieutenant Corps Officer/Pastor of Parry Sound’s Salvation Army Rainbow Country Church Scott Allen in the budget discussions at Tuesday night’s inaugural meeting.
In his request, Lieutenant Allen said the current CRU is 17 years old and no longer reliable.
The Salvation Army is hoping to raise a total of $130,000 for the purchase of a new Community Response Unit and associated equipment including emergency vests and new food containers.
Lieutenant Allen said the CRU serves both as a support services provider for First Responders in disaster and emergency situations and as a community outreach vehicle at local events which includes providing hot meals for up to 100 community members on a weekly basis.
Lieutenant Allen said he will also be approaching Town Councils in Seguin, Carling, and McDougall for funding assistance although no dollar amount will be specified.
