The Ontario government is encouraging winter anglers of all ages to get out this Family Day weekend and hook the big one.
Starting Friday, February 16th and continuing until Monday, February 18th, Canadian residents of any age will be able to fish in Ontario without having to buy a licence.
“We want to encourage families to enjoy the outdoors by providing a fun and affordable way to connect with each other and with nature,” said John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry.
If you haven’t made any plans as yet, the Ontario government can help with its Ontario Family Fishing website.
If you’re planning on being out on the ice, it’s important to remember that no ice is safe ice.
Anglers are reminded to stay safe and to check local ice conditions before heading onto the ice to fish.
For ice safety tips, the province urges you to visit their website.
Other licence-free fishing events in 2019 include Mother’s Day weekend (May 11 and 12, 2019), Father’s Day weekend (June 15 and 16, 2019), and Family Fishing Week (June 29 to July 7, 2019).
