UPDATE Sunday, February 17th: Special weather statement ended for the Parry Sound region.
Environment Canada says the Parry Sound area has some blustery winter weather on tap for Friday as it issues a Special weather statement for the region.
Strong westerly winds gusting to near 70 km/h are expected to whip up any freshly fallen snow resulting in very low visibility in some areas.
A few wind gusts to 80 km/h are possible near Lake Huron, especially over the Bruce Peninsula.
Officials say isolated power outages are possible.
Flurries will give 2 to 5 cm of fresh new snow to most areas, with a few locally higher amounts of 5 to 10 cm possible especially over areas east of Georgian Bay.
Poor winter driving conditions are expected.
Untreated roads will become snow covered, icy and slippery.
If you’re driving, give yourself some extra time to get to where you want to go.
Conditions will slowly improve this evening as winds ease and flurries begin to taper off.
