Parry Sound is gearing up for what might be called the sequel to Day of Rescue: Amphibious Vehicle Demonstrations that took place at the Stockey Centre earlier this month.
Day of Rescue Part II will take place at the Stockey Centre on March 22nd between 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 pm.
Bad weather conditions prevented most of the rescue portion of the first Amphibious Vehicle Demonstrations event from happening.
Officials are hoping better weather conditions in March will allow a full rescue demonstration to take place.
Confirmed for the March event is the Parry Sound Fire Department.
A specially trained member of the Parry Sound FD will break through the ice in Georgian Bay in a wet suit to dramatize a real-life rescue.
Also currently confirmed for the event are rescue vehicle manufacturers SHERP, maker of the world’s most powerful ATV, Interconn Development, maker of the ATASD Hovercraft, and Roshel Defence Solutions.
All three will demonstrate their products in the mock rescue of the firefighter.
Town of Parry Sound Economic Development Officer Vladimir Shehovtsov says he hopes to build on the momentum started by the first Day of Rescue to re-affirm the Parry Sound area as a viable and commercially successful manufacturing hub.
“We are gaining positive traction in the Parry Sound area’s focus on becoming the province’s manufacturing hub specializing in rescue vehicles”.
“With Stanley Boats and Air Rider already located in Parry Sound and plans underway for SHERP and Interconn Development to relocate to the region, we have a solid foundation to build on that goal”.
Though not yet confirmed, Shehovtsov hopes to have Stanley and Air Rider, as well as a number of rescue equipment manufacturers from the GTA, participate in the March event.
