It’s now official.
The Near North District School Board at its meeting Tuesday night approved plans to build a new JK-12 school in Parry Sound.
The province’s Ministry of Education approved of the plans for the new build at the site of the current Parry Sound High School at 111 Isabella Street in 2015, however, the Board has been involved in consultations with stakeholders and community partners to ensure that the community voice was represented during the process.
In a statement released Wednesday, NNDSB Chair Jay Aspin says, “After much discussion, it was agreed that moving forward with the Ministry approved plan for a single JK-12 facility best meets the needs of our parents, students, and communities in the Parry Sound area”.
He adds, “The Board explored a variety of options and considerations with respect to the new school in Parry Sound. However, it is important that this project proceed immediately to ensure that the approved funds can be accessed and utilized”.
Board staff will be preparing the required Request for Proposal for architectural services in order to move forward as soon as possible.
