The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been brought in to investigate the death of an Amor Township man.
Almaguin Highlands OPP reports that on March 4th, police stopped a vehicle in Amor arresting both the driver and passenger at the scene.
Police say that while at the Almaguin Highlands OPP detachment, the 54-year-old passenger went into medical distress and was taken to hospital.
On Friday, March 15th, the man died while in hospital.
The OPP has notified the SIU which has invoked its mandate.
Ontario’s SIU is an independent civilian agency whose mandate is to investigate reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information and any further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications.
