The critical executive position of Director of Finance/Treasurer has been filled in Parry Sound.
Stephanie Phillips takes the helm in the finance department after the departure of the previous Director of Finance Kim Chen late in 2018.
Mayor Jamie McGarvey and Council announced the appointment of the new treasurer on Monday.
“On behalf of Council, I’m very pleased to welcome Stephanie Phillips as our Director of Finance,” said Mayor McGarvey.
“Mrs. Phillips brings over ten years’ experience in both the private and public sectors; with each move, she has assumed more senior roles and expanded her experience. We look forward to her joining the Senior Leadership Team and utilizing these skills to full capacity here at the Town.” added the Mayor.
In a statement released Monday, the town says Phillips is a Chartered Professional Accountant and has an Honours BBA specializing in Accounting from Nipissing University.
She is currently working towards her Certified Municipal Officer designation.
Phillips started her finance career in the northern Ontario mining industry, before moving into the municipal sector and eventually back to her roots in the Parry Sound area.
She served as Manager of Revenue & Taxation in the Town of Gravenhurst and has worked as Treasurer in two local area municipalities.
Anticipating her move into the Town’s top finance role, Phillips says, “I am excited to be joining the breadth of talent and experience at the Town. As I assume a financial stewardship role in the community, I hope to provide value by maintaining a focus on continuous improvement, financial sustainability, and collaboration.”
Stephanie Phillips will be assuming her responsibilities with the Town effective May 6, 2019.
