The Township of The Archipelago joined Parry Sound and McKellar by voting to reject the rental of space for non-college use at Canadore College’s West Parry Sound campus.
The motion passed at the town’s Council meeting April 26th mirrors both Parry Sound’s and McKellar’s resolution to keep the college strictly a post-secondary education and training facility
In the case of Parry Sound, their move was prompted by a letter from former Parry Sound Councillor Wayne Cormier and former Canadore College WPS Campus Director Jocelyn Shipman, both voicing their objection to the proposed rental of the space for use as JK-Grade 8 school by the French School Board.
In their letter, Cormier and Shipman point out that the West Parry Sound campus was built to “deliver programs in the trades, adult and post-secondary education within the West Parry Sound area” and the presence of an elementary school would “undermine the quality of programming that Canadore has been offering in West Parry Sound.
In a statement released by Canadore College confirms “The Canadore College campus in Parry Sound will remain a postsecondary institution delivering quality education and training”.
